ROOTS
There is a particular kind of joy that only children raised in scarcity truly understand- the joy that arrives not despite the conditions , but within them. A stocksweets in a one-room shack is not a small thing: It is everything. It is proof that your mother saw you, thought of you and above all else chose you above whatever else that coin could have bought ROOTS is a portraiture series of that woman. It is an extension of every South African Mother who held a household together with nothing but will, ritual , love and above all else God. This isn’t a story about pain , poverty or struggle but about what flourishes despite limitation.
